About Colton A. NEWMAn

Colton Newman is a proud Albuquerque local, raised in District 9. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in Sustainability Studies, followed by a Master of Science in Project Management, both from the University of New Mexico (UNM). As a member of a new generation of leaders in Albuquerque, Colton brings fresh energy, perspective, and urgency to some of the city’s most pressing challenges. He is running for Albuquerque City Council to bring bold, forward-thinking leadership to District 9, his leadership is rooted in equity, sustainability, and real accountability to the community.

Colton began his professional journey as a staff member in the UNM Sustainability Studies Program, where his passion for environmental justice and education took shape. He went on to serve in the UNM Office of Research Integrity and Compliance, supporting ethical and transparent research practices. During that time, he also worked with the Rio Grande Community Farm, helping connect Albuquerque residents with local agriculture, food access, and land stewardship efforts. He currently works as the Business Manager at the UNM Center on Alcohol, Substance Use, and Addictions (CASAA), where he supports research that directly addresses the substance use crisis in Albuquerque through community-centered solutions.

In addition to his professional work, Colton serves on the Executive Committee of the UNM Staff Council, where he advocates for fair compensation, improved staff support, and meaningful campus-wide improvements. He believes that public service must be driven by lived experience and a genuine connection to the community.

Outside of work, Colton can be found hiking in the Sandia’s, attending local concerts, or reading at one of Albuquerque’s local coffee shops. His campaign is focused on the rising cost of living, safer neighborhoods, climate resilience, and expanding opportunities for all, because he knows that the future of Albuquerque depends on bold leadership today.
